A little bit about me…

A few personal bits:
I was born in the US, grew up in Calgary, CA, and have been living in Israel since 1988.
Currently, I live in Jaffa, close to the sea, at the tail-end of Tel-Aviv.
Life in Israel is the most challenging, satisfying, intense, creative and meaningful life I could imagine, and I don’t see myself living long-term anywhere else.

Professionally, I’m basically situated at the interface between Psychology & Technology.
Technology-wise: I’ve worked in Internet since 1995, running the gamut from web-designer/programmer in a small startup to project manager and finally a freelance interface and information architecture designer.
Right now, I’m involved in a few long-term interface research projects, which you can read more about on the Projects page (to be updated soon).

Teaching activities: I’m enjoying teaching at H.I.T. (Holon Institute of Technology) – an incredibly rich and challenging teaching environment. Teaching digital technology, and design in particular, is fascinating, complex and constantly changing. Having taught many different topics to many different audiences has helped me formulate a pretty wide-angled view of digital technologies – and the ties between theory and praxis.

Academia-wise: My background is in Psychology. Towards the end of my MA in Cognitive/Experimental psychology, I had something of an epiphany and changed my career course rather dramatically, deciding to focus on digital and media theory while tying it into my psychological interests in consciousness, language, conceptualization, self/identity and meaning.

Over time, I’ve developed stronger interests also in aesthetics, philosophy of science, media philosophy, digital/interactive art, gaming and critical theory. Along with this direction, I began my doctoral studies in fall 2007, expecting to finish end of 2011, (just in time for the revolution… )

Between here and there, I expect to be writing a great deal more – both academically and other, continue speaking and going to great conferences, and develop one of my stronger personal concerns, which is the local media art community. Continue teaching and hopefully get involved in deeper research on innovative interfaces/visualizations.

’till then…
